My Soapbox Podcast (Continued)

The My Soapbox Podcast is a place where I can think out loud on several topics, including religion and spirituality, logic, reason, epistemology, science, critical thinking, politics, culture, sports, music, and film, among other topics. I was inspired to change the name of this podcast from “The Oneness of All” to “My Soapbox” by observing how I started to see myself and how others started to describe me as “getting on my soapbox,” which is in truth, a lot of what I do on this podcast.  This podcast sometimes contains explicit language, as I aim to pull no punches in expressing my feelings on several topics I am passionate about. This is a continuation of my original Soapbox Podcast with more episodes, starting with the latest version of #250. Has Science Disproved Christianity?

254. The “F” Word

February 13, 2026 • 1:10:22

In this episode, I reflect on some positive personal visits with my daughter and her boyfriend, as well as a nice visit with my mom to get her a belated Christmas gift. On the less positive side, I express some of my concerns about potential implications if AI becomes as good or better at doing most or all tasks humans can do, expressing my amazement at the naiveté of some such as Sam Harris, believing we will have to learn to “share the wealth” since 50% plus unemployment in the near future due to AI advances will return us in my view to something akin to the Medieval feudal system when the vast majority were dirt poor peasants, and the tiny minority were super wealthy. Given human nature, and the millennia of demonstrating we are not at all likely to suddenly begin “sharing the wealth,” I find this an almost inevitable upcoming disaster of profound implications if AI is capable of doing what some believe it can do. While I have some skepticism on this, if it is even close to true, this could turn the world into a place unrecognizable from today’s world. I spend more of my time on this episode expressing some of my many thoughts on several disturbing latest insults to the American Democratic Experiment, including the ideas that we are now at a point where only an extremely terrible economic event, such as another great depression or recession, or a terrible war can lead us out of our current authoritarian grip by Trump. I reflect on some excellent latest episodes on the Sam Harris Making Sense podcast where he speaks with Jonathan Rauch from The Atlantic, and another with Sarah Longwell and Tim Miller, and their thoughts on what is happening to American Democracy. I reflect on how Jonathan Rauch finally expressed in his article in the Atlantic from January 25, 2026, “Yes, It’s Fascism,” or the “F” word, the fact we finally have to call this administration for what it is, in the grip of a Fascist leader, given how many of the criteria of Fascism are now applicable with the Trump 2.0 administration.

253. Happy New Year?

January 18, 2026 • 1:07:03

In this episode, I reflect on several of the personal, political, professional, and some other events which have already taken place in this new year of 2026, including the passing of my Uncle Craig, my father’s oldest brother, who died on January 14, 2026, my good friend’s continued challenges with finding the right blood pressure medication, after learning the one she was on for several years was suddenly discontinued. I also reflect on the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Trump’s designs on having the United States “run” Venezuela, his designs on Greenland and the unconscionable overreach of American imperialism, contradicting the “America First” notion of the ever-contradictory nature of the Trump administration. While I am pleased the House of Representatives took a step towards extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, I am equally disappointed and infuriated with some Republicans’ spineless backing down to limit Trump’s Venezuela war powers. I also reflect on some of the latest moves during the Major League Baseball “Hot Stove” season where the rich get richer with Kyle Tucker headed to the Dodgers, while the Mets signed Bo Bichette, and the Cubs signed Alex Bregman. I still feel the Dodgers will be the team to beat in 2026 with a lineup now so lethal, they are the new “murderer’s row” 100 years after the New York Yankees group lead by Babe Ruth. I also reflect on the exciting Bears’ 2026 football team’s season, which ended tonight with an incredible game against the Los Angeles Rams, in which the Bears lost 20-17.

252. Rocky Road

December 26, 2025 • 58:24

In this episode, I reflect on the excellent candlelight Christmas Eve service we had at the church where I work on 12/24/25, as well as the wonderful Christmas Day I had with my stepmom, daughter, and friends on 12/25/25, with a pending gift exchange with my brother and mom on Saturday, 12/27/25. I also reflect on my frustration with the pharmaceutical industry for forcing my good friend to take new medication for her blood pressure since the old meds she was taking have been discontinued after several years of working perfectly for her. Changing over to new meds, given her medical history could be a serious issue, which has triggered several concerns for me. I reflect on the tragic murder of Rob and Michelle Reiner, and the arrest of their son, Nick Reiner for their murder. I also spend a fair amount of time expressing my utter disappointment with Sylvester Stallone, the creator of Rocky, and his sell out to MAGA after Trump won the 2024 election. For some reason, this flew under the radar for me until news of the recent 2025 Kennedy Center Honors led me to further research and discover what I consider a disgusting betrayal by Stallone of all the ethical principles Rocky stood for, including championing the little guy, what can happen to a common, down on their luck person when given a shot, respect for women and all people, etc. To hear of Stallone comparing Donald Trump to fictional boxing champion Rocky Balboa, who in my view would have NEVER supported Donald Trump is disgusting and an appallingly inaccurate comparison as far as I’m concerned. The comparison Stallone made of Trump with the real-life George Washington, first President of the United States, is even more appalling, especially on the eve of the 250th anniversary of the official founding of the United States of America.

251. Winter’s Brutal Arrival

November 30, 2025 • 33:00

In this episode, I touch base on our excellent Thanksgiving with my daughter, my brother, and my stepmom, our sobering church meeting this past 11/16, my car repairs, the sudden and brutal arrival of true winter with some eight inches of snow this past Saturday, 11/29/25 in Chicagoland, getting off Amazon Music, and off Amazon in general as much as possible as a protest against Jeff Bezos’ support of Trump, including money donated for Trump’s stupid White House ballroom. I am not sure what other power we as citizens have to protest what we disagree with but to withhold our financial and political support of those whose politics do not align with ours since it seems money and power are virtually the only things these people care about. I also reflect on the sad passing of Dodgers’ pitcher Alex Vesia’s baby daughter just before the World Series, and the excellent show of solidarity among all the players, with the Blue Jays’ pitching staff also writing Vesia’s uniform number on their baseball hats during the World Series. I talk about the ending of the longest government shutdown in US history on November 12, 2025, with nothing gained for lots of pain, including air traffic controllers and others not getting paid, while incompetent congressmen continued to get paid during the government shutdown in a show of unconscionable backwardness and complete moral decay on the eve of the United States’ 250th anniversary.

250. Has Science Disproved Christianity?

November 19, 2025 • 1:24:55

In this episode, I express my feelings on how science has in a sense, disproved Christianity, since several of the pillars one needs to believe in for Christianity to be true, such as dualism, the soul, creationism, etc., have been disproved by science, or at the very least are not supported by science, not supported by genuine, credible, replicable evidence, and not supported by sound reasoning, and therefore can only be believed in as an appeal to faith, which is a logical fallacy, invalidating these claims. This episode was inspired by the last class on a series of “Tough Questions of Christianity” we have been working through on Wednesday nights at the church where I work.
